GAMIFICATION FOR LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT

BY RAJIV JAYARAMAN (FOUNDER, CEO OF KNOLSKAPE) | 1.30PM

In the last 150 years, we have managed to industrialize learning to scale up skilled workforce for the industry. Learners' experience has taken the back seat in the bargain. This has led to a seriously undesirable side-effect of creating learners who merely learn the theory without much appreciation for real-world application. Today, with the aid of technology, we are able to introduce experience in the learning process by creating safe learning environments where the learner can learn by doing. Trends such as immersive gamification, anytime anywhere learning and skills analytics are making learning an intensely enjoyable, immensely effective and a deeply personal experience.

ENHANCING TRAINING MANAGEMENT THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

BY GERALD GIAM (SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT OF VITIS SOLUTIONS) | 2.30PM

Corporate training providers have a lot on their plate: They are expected to not only provide quality training, but also handle countless backend tasks to prepare for each course: registration, verifying trainees’ particulars, handling withdrawals, compiling attendance lists, issuing certificates, collecting course evaluations and much more. Approved Training Organisations (ATOs) and Approved Training and Testing Centres (ATTCs) also have to compile reams of statistics to submit to funding agencies.

Too often, the quick fix is to simply hire more staff. But with a labour crunch and higher manpower costs, this is not always feasible. Companies need to look for ways to employ technology to achieve their goals.

ENGAGE: The Best Practices of Experiential Learning

BY FREDDY WEE (ASSOCIATE PARTNER, R&A ASSOCIATES) | 3.30PM

Engaging training courses or the same old thing again?

Classroom-based courses with learners sitting in a classroom listening to a trainer, being subjected to uninspiring and unengaging onslaught of lectures and powerpoint slides, our brains effectively turn off and go to sleep and expensive training courses quickly become forgotten. It’s at the heart of the reason why experiential learning is such an effective medium as opposed to classroom learning.  Experiential learning has the power to inspire learners not only to remember the learning but transfer it to the workplace through positive behavioral change and improved performance.
