STADA - Singapore Training and Development Association was formed by a group of training professionals who wanted a network to raise training standards in Singapore.
The PDAG or Professional Development Advisory Group was a core team of experienced practitioners within STADA who spearheaded the shaping of professional expertise through a systematic framework. |

STADA developed a systematic HRD (human resource development) programme for the business community, covering functions such as Training, manpower Development, Organisational Development and Managing the Training and Development function. |

1976 - 77 |

STADA's future direction was spelt out in a 5-year plan. Recognition came in the form of a World Health Organisation project to develop the training skills of medical practitioners. |

1981 - 83 |

The formation of the Skills Development put the spotlight on the training profession with its "multiplier effect' in building up our workforce capabilities.
STADA organized a series of "Trainers Evenings" for the more experienced members to share their expertise with new members of the profession. |

Two very successful Train-the-trainer programmes were organized. The first was facilitated by Tim Russell from UK and the second by Eliza Quek from Exxon in US. |

STADA, in conjunction with Slough College of England conducted a comprehensive 12-week Training Management Programme to help HRD professionals set up in0house training centres. |

STADA's first Annual Conference attracted more than 130 participants marking its coming-of-age to take on higher profile as a professional organisation. |

A Visioning workshop was organized with some key speakers and ex-Presidents of STADA to chart its direction and development into the 90s. This exercise prepared STADA for its expanded role to come. |

STADA attains a stronger position in Asia as the host of Annual Conference of the Asian Regional Training and Development Association. |

STADA was invited by the National Productivity Board (now SPRING SINGAPORE) and the Skills Development Fund to join its Professional Development Task Force to formulate a training programme for companies and the public. |

To promote Adventure Training as an effective approach for bringing about behavioral change, STADA set up a $16,000 adventure learning site at Temasek Polytechnic. At the same time as full-time Executive Director with one full-time staff was appointed to form a STADA secretariat in order to better serve members needs and support for the growing scope of STADA's achievement and activities |

STADA set up another adventure training site at the Association for Muslim Professionals property in Jalan Tembusu. The key thrust was to help community organisations use adventure learning. |

Another breakthrough was achieved when a major statutory board appointed STADA to equip some 150 of its in-house trainers for running company-wide team-building programmes. |

STADA organized its first overseas study mission to US. It also served more corporate members, notably an experiential training project for 7,500 staff of a major local organisation.
At the same time STADA linked up with the Association of Experiential Education for sharing of resources and expertise. |

STADA's inaugural Asia-Pacific Conference and Exhibition on Experiential learning attracted close to 300 participants.
A new STADA logo was launched to better reflect a more modern dynamic image.
A 5-year partnership was forged with National Training Laboratory Institute to offer a Professional Certificate in change Management for Organisational Development and change Management practitioners.
STADA also produces two new publications "Add Venture to Learning" and "Training & Learning the Fun Way" |

STADA organized the inaugural Asia-Pacific Conference and Exhibition on Change Management and published the inaugural Change Management Review to promote sharing among local and overseas expert practitioners.
A third learning site for Adventure Training in Jurong Adventure Park was set-up.
The first batch of participants for the Professional Certificate in Change Management started their programme. |

At the 2nd Asia-Pacific Conference and Exhibition on Experiential learning, STADA conferred its 1st Honorary Membership to Dr Charlotte Lim who is widely credited as the prime-mover of large-scale Experiential Learning (EL) in Singapore and served as the President of STADA from 1986 to 1992.
STADA launched the Diploma in Strategic Human Resource Development (DSHRD) programme to facilitate professional development in the HRD profession.
CREST programmes won the endorsement of Spring Singapore. |

Ministry of Manpower (MOM) appointed STADA as member for the National Trainer Competency Standards Working Group, to develop quality standards for local trainers, to facilitate the benchmarking of trainers' competency level and help identify their training needs.
Promoted and facilitated an innovative learning methodology - Service Learning programme for National Youth Council. Service Learning integrates community service with the acquisition of skills and knowledge.
Organised a 2nd Change Management Conference with international renowned expert Dr Margaret Wheatley as keynote speaker.
A project of great strategic importance is the paper to Reposition STADA. This initiative aims to provide the infrastructure to raise trainers' professionalism through the upgrading of skills, maintaining of competency standards and promoting best practice in the industry. To-date an Advisory Board has been formed comprising leaders from government agencies, corporations and other human capital development professionals to steer the concept to implementation.
Launched the 1st Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Training and Development and Masters in Online Learning with the University of Southern Queensland. |

At the international front, STADA was invited to participate in the Future Search Conference organised by American Society of Training and Development to map out the future for workplace-learning and shape the future role of HRD. |

Organised a ground breaking event - the inaugural Human Capital Conference 2002 and incorporating our 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner.
Launched the first Community of Practice on Coaching - to strengthen STADA's catalytic role bringing together like-minded practitioners to share, learn and find innovative solutions, guided by agreed ground rules.
In order to equip a pool of competent human capital development professionals to meet the vision of developing Singapore into a self-sustaining education and training ecosystem, STADA developed and launched the Professional Diploma in Training and Development (PDTD) course in 2003 for 3 batches of students. The programme aims to develop the key competencies for new entrants to the training profession or training business.
STADA has received approval to participate in the Skills Redevelopment Programme for the UNEMPLOYED (SRP) which is the FIRST scheme to equip the unemployed with the relevant skills required of them in the new economy.
SRP funds are also available to companies sponsoring their staff for re-skill. |

Inaugural meeting of STADA Advisory Council led by elite CEOs
Initiated research project on Human Resource Development in Shanghai, led by Professor Alvin Hwang of Pace University New York. This project was supported by International Enterprise Singapore and completed in 2004.
STADA became a distance education partner to University of Southern Queensland (USQ) on HRD related certification programs. This relationship completed in 2007 when USQ consolidates its worldwide distance education centres. |
